JAMES H. HYUN / Co-Counsel

Judge James T. Hyun  is currently a State of Illinois Cook County Administrative Law Judge since May of 2010. Judge Hyun has been a lawyer for more than 30 years where he started his career as a prosecutor for the Cook County States Attorneys Office and worked his way up all the way to felony trial court level. After leaving the prosecutor’s office, he formed the law firm of Hyun Law Group, specializing in complex civil, criminal litigation and international transactions. At his law firm, he has tried thousands of trials and many jury trials both civil and criminal cases in State and Federal courts.

Judge Hyun attended the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and DePaul University, College of Law, and has received a certification from Harvard Law School in the area of Alternative Dispute Resolution. He is a former president of the Korean American Bar Association and a Chief Legal Counsel for Korean Daily News, Korean American Chamber of Commerce, Korean American Association of Chicago and American Foreign Ministry Institute.

Besides his legal career as an attorney, Judge Hyun visits China and Korea annually to teach commercial transactions and advocacy in various schools in Asia. He has been an active advocate for the American Bar Association and is the annual presiding arbitrator for the annual American Bar Association Arbitration Competition. He is currently an adjunct professor at Northwestern University Law School.

Judge Hyun has been named Illinois Super Lawyer from the year 2012 to 2020 and also by the Chicago Magazine.
